The K't'inga was the "new" Klingon ship designed for "The Motion Picture".  It really is substantially similar to the D7.  It's supposed to be a new ship model, rather than a retrofitted older craft, but it bears a lot closer resemblance to the D7 than does the "refitted" enterprise to its appearance in the original series.

How to tell a K'Tinga from a D7:
1. The bridge (on top of the forward hull) is more of a dome rather than a bulbous shape as on the D7.
2. The warp nacelles have glowing components showing. (usually)
3. There are two impulse drives set lower on the aft hull, instead of one, making room for a small shuttle/fighter bay.
*. the warp nacelles on this model have a slightly different shape, but that is a variation, not a standard k't'inga trait.
